Leaving the Minimalists Behind

“Is this wedding dress minimalist?”

The members of a minimalist group on Facebook I dropped into on occasion scrutinized every square inch of their existence. “Is this wedding dress minimalist?”

“What TV set is most minimalist?”

“I’m minimalist because f#*% capitalism!” -Sent from my iPhone, and posted to Facebook. .

From the outside It appears that we need to have 30 checklists to live the minimalist (or self-love, mindfulness, wellness, [insert trending self-help theme here] lifestyle.

It’s additive philosophy being applied to a subtractive idea. How can I apply more processes to my life in order to be a minimalist?

The group headline reads: “Minimalism is a way of life. Experiences > things.” Yet, the group is about how to manage, rearrange and buy more minimalist things.

And so I left the Minimalist group, because it’s important to subtract if it isn’t adding.
