Sunsets on an Epic Week: 5 Things

A Sunset View, last week, from Golden Gardens Beach in Seattle

Just spent most of the week on airplane mode unlearning and learning verbal ticks, thought patterns and public speaking tactics in a hunger games style training. The big takeaway: my biggest enemy and best friend is myself.

I had to throw away the script and start acting like myself.

1. Reading (listening)

The 22 Immutable Laws of Branding

It’s for you if you are at all considering your own personal brand. Whether you’re a fledgling YouTube personality, or a seasoned business owner attempting to wrap your head around marketing, this book might be helpful for you.

2. On Millennials.

First, this generational distinction is arbitrary. “Oh, you’re a millennial? That means you like to do x, y and z and must act like a and b. And your generation is lazy.” Yawn.

Remember, if you are guilty of generalizations, whether by generation, horoscope, culture, car choice or habit, your generalization is a lie to someone else.

As psychologist Robert Cialdini demonstrates, our brains love shortcuts. This is one of them.

3. Song I’m loving

“Monday to Monday” by Saba. This one made the loop list this week. Get it.

4. Word of the week:

**Persnickety —**per·snick·et·y (adjective)

Definition: placing too much emphasis on trivial or minor details; fussy.

5. What’s one question you have for me?

Or, what’s a question you have asked yourself recently that inspired a change?

Yours,

Tired timo
